Study Abroad South Korea 1: Departing the US – Arriving in Seoul!

I had a departing flight from Ontario International Airport at 5:00am. One thing I learned is that it probably isn’t necessary to arrive two hours ahead of the flight. First, I couldn’t check-in without the help of a representive because they need to check my passport, and also because security doesn’t open till after 4:00am so you just stand in a line downstairs until they do. Anyways, after making my way through security seemingly hassle-free I then went to my gate and it was about time to board so it went well I suppose. The flight from ONT (Ontario, CA) to SFO (San Francisco) was pretty horrible I must say. Of course, I was exhausted from the past couple of days, the seats were super small, both in width and height making siting really uncomfortable. Thankfully, the flight is not too long lasting only about two hours. I arrived in SF sometime approaching 7:00am. Tired and I hungry I knew that what I needed was a bit of breakfast and I craved mimosa. I ate a french toast breakfast at a restaurant called Yankee Pier.

The service was nice, the food was tasty, and well the mimosa was good. Though the mimosa did break the bank running in at over nine dollars. It was good but it definitely wasn’t that good. After that, I went down to may gate for the next two or three hours till my flight was scheduled to leave at 10:50am. Unfortunately, the flight was delayed due to crew availability until 11:15am. Once we were able to board I found my seat. All I can say is, Economy Plus is definitely worth it. The space in here is a good amount more than regular economy and I get the advantage of sitting near the front of the plane (literally one row from where Business class ends and economy begins). Then, it got even better, considering that sitting in the aisle, there was plenty of leg room, but also there was no one in the middle seat between me and the girl at the window. I was able to put my backpack under that seat giving me more room and stuff. One nice thing about this plane is that it overs A/C Power. However, there is no backseat entertainment system, but you do get the option of watching movies on your personal device using united’s movie selection. That is, if you can get their system to work properly haha. The food they serviced for lunch wasn’t half bad. It was pasta with cheese, gratin, some bread, and mango sorbet.

In addition, they offered cheese and crackers before the meal. I am glad everyone told me United was horrible, it set my expectations so low that everything seems so amazing. Haha. Or perhaps its actually not that bad, I think it is the latter. At this point, we are about 2 hours from Seoul, South Korea and I am unable to sleep despite being exhausted. My neck has a kink in it, and I do have a headache. I’ll check back in later.
